What makes a band unique? Is it the way they comb their hair? (Uh!) Is it the stylish clothes they wear? (Uh!) Is it the little things they do? (Uh!) That make me want to get with you? (Uh!) Actually, it’s a band’s sound. Without sound, CMJ week would be a mime convention, and we’ve all been there, right? Whether it’s grating trash metal, smooth whispering R&B, or ska-inspired nu-punk hair-wave, each band has it’s own aural identity. So Eric and Jeff Rosenthal of ItsTheReal cut to the chase, and found out how bands in town would describe their sound… to a deaf person.
