Bonnaroo Carbon Shredders
Join the Bonnaroo Carbon Shredders, and make a difference. Individually we can each make a difference but together we can exercise real power by reducing our carbon power footprints. The Shredders are a hope-generating, "if it aint fun don't do it", shreddolutionary education group dedicated to helping concert goers save money on energy costs, reduce pollution and create a clean energy future for the communities we live in.
The goal is to reduce our collective energy usage and C02 footprint by 10% by Bonnaroo 2009. If 80,000 people each reduce their carbon footprint by 5% that would reduce our collective carbon output by hundreds of millions of pounds. Be the Biggest Loser. The Planet and all of us win.
Global Water Challenge
Most people don't think about water; they turn on a tap and clean water flows readily. But for more than 1.1 billion people, water is a constant concern. Will the taps run? Will there be enough water? Will it be clean?
Basic human privacy and dignity are lost to 2.6 billion people who have no access to a safe toilet.
Water is the source of life. Without clean water and sanitation people get sick, children miss school: the cycle of poverty is perpetuated indefinitely. Millions die prematurely from water-related diseases. And this crisis will become even more deadly as water scarcity becomes more acute and leads to violent conflicts.
But this problems can be solved. Global Water Challenge is a coalition of 22 leading organizations, who have joined together to catalyze transformational change and create a global movement in the water and sanitation sector. GWC focuses on collaborative learning, connecting leaders, and investing in sustainable, scaleable, and replicable projects. Our goal is universal access to clean water and safe sanitation. Our Mission is to generate a global movement to meet the urgent need for safe water and sanitation by spurring collective awareness and investment in innovation by corporate, public, and nongovernmental actors.
GWC is committed to finding and implementing solutions by engaging people and their governments, spreading knowledge, and increasing access to markets. Our challenge is to reach people with the tools and education they need to empower themselves. Access to clean water and sanitation leads to healthier, longer and more productive lives, and breaks the cycle of poverty. Water and sanitation are not just human rights, they are human necessities.
The Clean Air Conservancy is this country's first non-profit, non-partisan, non-advocacy environmental organization formed primarily to acquire and retire tradable air pollution rights of all types for the public good. For the past 16 years, the CAC has promoted the expanded participation of an informed public in existing and emerging air pollution markets in order to effect improvements in air quality and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
Change of Atmosphere is a catalyst organization to educate, engage, and empower our society with the tools for sustainability. Utilizing festivals, events, bio-fuel educational tours, and community presentations, Change of Atmosphere facilitates educational experiences that inspire positive planetary change.
Rock the Earth is a not-for-profit, national public interest environmental organization dedicated to protecting and defending America's natural resources through partnerships with the music industry and the worldwide environmental community. We act as advocates to ensure the existence of a sustainable and healthy environment for all and represent those individuals and communities whose environment or natural surroundings are directly and adversely affected by others.
Clean Vibes
Clean Vibes is a company formed and dedicated to the responsible waste management of outdoor festivals and events. Our mission is to actively encourage and promote recycling and proper waste disposal at outdoor events. We hope to inspire and educate a new generation of responsible stewards. Our goal is to decrease the amount of trash entering landfills and incinerators by increasing the amount of recyclables collected and delivered to recycling centers. We thank all the fans who have joined us in our vision of a cleaner and more respectful future! We hope you will continue to spread the Clean Vibe! Here are a few easy ways for you to
leave the smallest “Bonnaroo Footprint” possible.
The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy is a leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for people and nature. Together with our more than 1 million members we have protected nearly 120 million acres worldwide. In Tennessee, we have protected more than 270,000 acres of critical habitats, including Savage Gulf, Radnor Lake, the Walls of Jericho, and the Tennessee River Gorge. A key focus for us is the biologically rich and scenic Duck River. It begins in Coffee County and provides drinking water for more than 250,000 Tennesseans, including people in Manchester. The Duck River’s water quality is crucial not only for humans but also for the wildlife and the economy of the region. Since 1999, we’ve been working with local communities, farmers, businesses, and government agencies on long-term protection of the river’s water quality and ecological integrity. Today the Duck is a healthy river, and the Conservancy is working to keep it so.
PLAYBACK: Recycling With A Twist
This year Bonnaroo is proud to take their recycling initiative to
new heights by introducing PLAYBACK recycled t-shirts and
hoodies as part of their festival merchandise! Bonnaroo attendees
will have an exclusive opportunity to get their hands on these
recycled goodies, such as t-shirts made from recycled beer bottles,
directly form PLAYBACK at Planet Roo.
PLAYBACK recycled t-shirts and sweatshirts are made by
collecting cotton scraps and plastic bottles, breaking them down
into fiber form, and then re-spinning them into the soft yarns that
are the basis of PLAYBACK’s fabric. This innovative process
saves textile scraps and bottles from landfill, minimizes the need
for hazardous chemical dyes, and preserves precious resources
such as land and water. In an independent Life Cycle Analysis
Study, PLAYBACK outperformed a conventional (read: non-
recycled) cotton product in 23 out of 25 categories that measure
environmental impacts, such as global warming, ozone depletion,
and production of hazardous wastes.
PLAYBACK’s philosophy of “better by recycling” promotes
recycling as not only the most sustainable option, but also a
creative way to make clothes better looking, longer lasting, and
frankly, a lot more interesting. PLAYBACK is the only apparel
company that utilizes the original color of the recycled materials
(“soda bottle green” for instance), significantly reducing the need
for chemical dyes.
