It’s hard to keep up with Marco Benevento. When not out with his own trio, he could be collaborating with any number of musicians on projects ranging from Garage A Trois to the Zeppelin tribute band Bustle In Your Hedgerow or it could be the GRAB project from a few years back with Joe Russo and Phish’s Mike Gordon and Trey Anastasio. If you’ve ever been down to New Orleans for Jazzfest (and if you haven’t, drop all your plans and go in 2012), then you certainly know that Marco Benevento is omnipresent on the scene, seeming to pop up on every stage and at any hour.
So I guess its no surprise that when we met up with him on his last solo tour, he was gushing with joy and exuberant energy as he received a new toy to incorporate into his arsenal of noisemaking gadgetry. As we looked around for a spot to shoot a short interview and performance, he pointed to a nearby laundromat parking lot and quickly bounded across the street.
